On 3 April 2025, the B-Trust project held its fourth online masterclass, focusing on the use of biostimulants and biofertilisers in agriculture. These natural alternatives to synthetic fertilisers and pesticides are gaining attention for their ability to enhance plant growth, improve nutrient uptake, increase stress resistance, and boost overall crop quality. The session explored how these technologies are understood and received by both farmers and consumers.
The masterclass featured an expert overview of the potential and limitations of biostimulants and biofertilisers, providing a scientific lens to separate the hope from the hype. An industry testimonial offered practical insights into the use and regulatory environment surrounding these products. Finally, results from B-Trust’s co-creation sessions with stakeholders shed light on perceptions, expectations, and concerns, contributing to a better understanding of how trust in these technologies can be built and maintained.
The session highlighted the importance of engaging all actors in the value chain—especially end users and consumers—when introducing sustainable innovations in agriculture. Open dialogue and evidence-based communication remain essential to encourage broader adoption and ensure alignment between innovation and societal expectations.
